Treasure Valley Mathematics & Science Center Robotics Team Receives $3,000 Grant from Bayer Fund
Team receives funds to support STEM education through FIRST® Robotics competition
Boise, ID/ 11/08/2022 – Students at the Treasure Valley Mathematics & Science Center received grant funding for their robotics team as they work to enhance their skills in science and engineering. Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, recently awarded a one-time $3,000 grant to Team Tators Robotics, Team #2122 to support their participation in the FIRST Robotics program.
The Treasure Valley Mathematics & Science Center as well as the students and mentors for Team Tators Robotics are sincerely grateful for this generous support provided to support exceptional opportunities for the participating students to explore STEM fields of study and work in this rich and exciting robotics program.
Team Tators Robotics will use this grant to participate in FIRST Robotics educational programs and competitions. FIRST enables teams of students to compete with others in building, designing and programming their own robots to perform preassigned tasks, giving students a chance to get involved with real-world engineering.
“The First Robotics program helps provide the necessary skills for young students to become STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) leaders,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “This program not only inspires innovation but provides life capabilities such as communication and self-confidence. Bayer Fund is proud to provide grants to student teams to encourage their development into future scientists, engineers, and computer programmers.”
Bayer Fund’s sponsorship of FIRST Robotics teams continues the nonprofit’s intentional support of programs that improve STEM education. Over the past five years, Bayer Fund has contributed over $37 million to STEM outreach efforts.

About Team Tators
In the 2022-2023 FIRST Robotics season, Team Tators begins as a culturally, demographically and socioeconomically diverse team of 40 grade 9 – 12 students and 12 mentors. Students of all ability levels, genders and ethnicities are welcomed onto this team. People work together collaboratively and the contributions of each member of the team are valued and respected. Veteran students develop leadership responsibilities, but in turn, will train less experienced team members in these responsibilities so that as students graduate from high school, they have already trained younger team members for those responsibilities. This team takes personal responsibility, respect for self and others and gracious professionalism very seriously. All students are able to freely choose where their focus will be. The mentors support each student in developing skills and abilities for these areas of interest. The team also trains students for specialized skills such as for CAD design work, electronics, welding, team safety, metalworking and woodworking in the process of designing and constructing the competition-ready robots.
